I spent yesterday on a private yacht for a friend’s birthday after a big picnic in the park – it kinda felt like the real life version of all of those ‘I forgot this was the whole point’ Reels I keep seeing recently. Safe to say I’m really loving living in Lisbon and can’t wait to see what else it brings!
In other news: I’m back in build mode and it feels SO good. After months of feeling burnt out/a little low/confused, it feels amazing to have clarity again. So today’s newsletter is for you if you’ve been feeling similarly.
I stopped making progress – so here’s what I did:
First, a little context:
At the end of last year, I put myself on a coaching ban. I’d invested in a lot of things (courses, memberships, group programmes) and barely used half of them. I was determined to spend this year making the most of what I already had and figuring things out on my own.
But after nearly six months of feeling stuck and circling the same ideas, I realised something: I wasn’t actually getting anywhere. So I broke my own rule and invested in 1:1 coaching again and honestly, it’s already paying off. Here’s how I knew I was ready to get support:
It was a big chunk of money upfront. But I see it as an investment in three ways:
Tax-wise, it’s a smart business expense.
Energetically, spending that money forces me to take action.
Strategically, coaching has consistently created the biggest ROI for me – not just in revenue, but in confidence and momentum.
I was craving more clarity and direction
Around how I actually wanted to feel in my business. What my days looked like. What I was building this for. The surface-level strategies weren’t cutting it – I needed someone to help me see the bigger picture. My new biz coach said a fab phrase “the label looks blurry from inside the jar.”
I felt like I was circling my own edge
I had ideas and ambition. But I wasn’t really doing the things I knew would move the needle. I needed someone to help me move through the fear and resistance – and make brave decisions faster. I wanted someone who could hold the bigger vision with me and mentorship that matched that energy.
I noticed I was holding back – and I didn’t want to anymore
I was playing small in subtle ways. Delaying launches, avoiding visibility, sitting on big ideas because I didn’t feel ‘ready’. I knew coaching would help me move from waiting to doing.
If you’re considering investing in coaching, here are a few things I look for now:
They’ve been where I am – not just 10 steps ahead, but recently in a similar season or mindset.
They feel safe and spacious (I want honesty, but not hustle energy)
They don’t sell magic solutions – I don’t want fluff, I want partnership.
I trust their integrity, both in how they run their business and how they speak to their audience.
Right now, I’m deep in a pivot, designing my business around more freedom, fun and intentional living. And while I’m moving toward closing down my current coaching offers, I still have space to work with a few 1:1 clients who are ready to move forward now.
Want personalised support?
I’ve got a couple of spaces open for 1:1 coaching over the next few months – perfect if you’re craving clarity, accountability and honest, grounded guidance as you grow your business.
I’m broadening this away just from writers looking to grow their writing businesses but also now for writers looking to diversify or talk about what the next level of their business could include. Drop me a quick email or fill out the contact form if you’d like more info 🙂
