How are you today? I flew back to England for two nights to see Chase & Status, my favourite DJs, over the weekend. I actually got the tickets a year ago before I knew I’d be spending summer in Lisbon.
They were playing in Milton Keynes, at a venue about 20 minutes away from my family house. So, logically, it felt like a wasted opportunity to just sell the tickets. Instead, I popped back to the UK for 48 hours and had an incredible weekend, picked up some more of my favourite protein powder and flew back to Lisbon last night!
I’m still strongly considering moving here properly next year…let’s wait and see! This week’s newsletter was a requested one – remember you can drop suggestions for topics using the link at the top of this newsletter.
How I schedule my week & workload:
I have three ongoing to-do lists
At the start of each month, I put together a monthly, weekly and daily to-do list. I write out all of my deadlines, calls and other commitments, so I can ensure I’ve got enough time/space to do everything on time.
I’ll also then map out any fun things I’ve got planned on weekdays. I don’t do this on anything fancy, just the Notes app on my laptop and my Google calendar.
I typically work 3.5 days per week
Usually Monday, Tuesday and Thursday as ‘proper’ workdays. Sometimes I take calls on Wednesdays, especially when I’m running a live round of a course (Weds always seems to be the easiest day for groups).
I do this strategically: I’m always feeling motivated on Monday and Tuesday and by Wednesday my creativity needs a little break. So Wednesday is always a ‘free’ day to do whatever I like (sometimes that’s work, sometimes that’s not) and Thursdays are another proper work day when I’ve got my creative energy back.
Fridays are always a day off because, why not?
I jump between both businesses simultaneously
I have a terrible attention span. I can usually only focus on one task for two hours, maximum. I used to find this very frustrating but now I kinda lean into it and inject novelty into everything wherever possible.
So my workdays don’t have a particular order, although I’ll usually start with the more intense stuff (I’m a morning person) and do the lighter/easier/more admin-focused stuff in the afternoon.
I start most days of the week with a workout
I usually wake up around 7 (this isn’t a humble brag, I would love to be able to sleep in but even as a baby, I’ve never been able to) and go through my emails before heading to the gym. I’m usually back and starting work around 10am.
I take a break for breakfast between 12-1 and then usually work from 1-4ish, sometimes until 6 if it’s a busy day. I like to finish by 6 and go for a walk, ideally on the beach if I’m staying close to the water!
I have a never-ending list of small admin bits
And on days when I’m not feeling creative, I just work through that list instead. It means I’m doing productive things that help to grow my business without using much creativity.
This includes deleting old emails, scheduling self-marketing content or uploading course content.
I’m never sure how much detail to go into with these kinda answers. But if there’s anything I haven’t covered that you’d like to know, feel free to drop me a response to this blog post!
